Each year around this time, we honor the memory of our late dear friend, paddling companion and BRRR Past President David Morgan, who departed this life in January, 2008, by floating one or more of the many exciting rivers to be found in the Great American West.
Dave’s love of wilderness rivers often led him westward to experience many of the most lovely, remote and pristine rivers remaining in our all-too-rapidly developing country. In 2009, it was our privilege to distrbute his ashes along the shores of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho, Dave’s favorite river.
This year we will be returning to another of Dave’s favorites. On June 11, we will launch our boats in the Hells Canyon of the Snake River on the Idaho-Oregon border. Three days and 32 miles later, we will take out at Pittsburgh Landing, and then spend several days paddling other exciting rivers in the area, including (but not limited to) the Lochsa, Grand Ronde, Clearwater and Payette Rivers.
BRRR members, their family and friends are invited to participate. You may join us for all or part of the trip. You may ride with us, or arrange your own transportation. We can even pick you up and return you to the Boise, ID Airport. We will leave Lynchburg on Thursday, June 7, and return home on June 23.
You may paddle your own boat or ride in our guided paddle raft.
Our Hells Canyon Launch Permit limits the size of our group to 24 participants and 8 boats. The Permit Holder, Teresa Roundy, already has 9 participants signed up, and an unknown number of boats. So if you want to participate, contact Howard Kirkland ASAP. These limits do not apply to most of the other rivers in the area.
